The Dog, the Fall, and the Missing Hours
Have you ever thought about the one who had experienced post-traumatic amnesia? Those who don't know what happened to them, and suddenly wake up to find themselves in a hospital bed with injuries? On the late night of April 11, 2026, I woke up to exactly such a situation.
I was at the Kozhikode Medical College, where I could see my father, my mother, and two of my college seniors. I didn't know where I was, but it was clearly a hospital. I was experiencing severe pain in several parts of my body and was pretty sure I had a fracture in my right wrist. They told me I had been attacked by a stray dog and had fallen from a height while on my way to college for an interzone drama rehearsal. They repeated this story, but my unconscious mind just couldn't accept it. A few hours later, I got a plaster cast on my right wrist and received a rabies vaccination. They told me there were no other problems besides that. However, I was having difficulty lifting my left hand—feeling the same pain as in my right wrist—and I also had unbearable pain in my right thigh.
Later, I was shifted to another hospital in Kozhikode (Calicut), K.D.C. Hospital. My parents took this step to ensure I received better treatment. When I reached K.D.C. Hospital, it was discovered that I had a fracture near my hip on the right side and another fracture in my left elbow joint. I wondered how I could have gotten all of these injuries. They told me I needed ORIF .
Overall, it was an incredibly shocking moment, yet my outward actions remained very calm. Later on, my doubts grew. How did this happen? Who gave them my father's phone number? Where was my phone? Why was I walking alone? I had forgotten the entire day. I was someone who had never previously experienced a fracture, a surgery, or even a stitch.
Everything came hitting me all at once. It is a very difficult situation, struggling and trying to recall the memory by thinking, but nothing works.
