ABLEISM IN DISGUISE : WHY WE NEED TO RETHINK OUR APPROACH TO DIFFERENTLY ABLED PEOPLE
Have you noticed that most people use the term "differently abled" to instill fear about something or to blackmail their kids? Why? Why do they pretend to be okay with using them as a tool? Instead of using them as a scare, why don't they try to make their kids aware about differently abled people and their lives? Even my mom used this method on me too. My secondary education was in a special school , which admitted common people only for 11th and 12th grade. So, I had a lot of chances to interact with them, and I still loved doing so. The core issue here is that by using them as a scary thing, they are injecting indirect hatred and fear towards differently abled people into the hearts of kids, which may vanish when they receive proper education, but some may remain the same.
